Why $GPIQ Is Worth Knowing About
When people search for Nasdaq-100 income funds they usually land on $JEPQ or $QQQI. $GPIQ is the quiet third option, and honestly it's the one I hear the fewest people talk about relative to how good its numbers have been.
It's run by Goldman Sachs, it owns the Nasdaq-100 stocks, and it sells call options on part of the portfolio to generate a monthly check. The net expense ratio is just 0.29%, cheaper than both $JEPQ and $QQQI.
This page is the calendar: when $GPIQ goes ex-dividend, when the cash hits your account, and how much each payment was. If you're tracking $JEPQ too, I keep its schedule on the $JEPQ 2026 dividend dates page.

How to read the $GPIQ schedule
Goldman declares the distribution on the last business day of the month. The very next business day is the ex-date, so you need to own $GPIQ before the open on the first business day of the month to get that month's check. The cash usually lands four to seven days later.
That's the same rhythm as $JEPQ, which also goes ex on the first business day. $QQQI is different: NEOS usually goes ex in the middle or second half of the month. If you own all three, your income shows up at different points in the month, which some people actually like for cash flow.
GPIQ Dividends by Year
Totals by ex-dividend year. The fund paid twice in December 2023, so 2024 shows 11 payments.
Here's the part I like: the average monthly check has gone up every year, from about $0.41 in 2024 to $0.43 in 2025 to $0.48 so far in 2026. That's not a promise, because the payout moves with option premiums and with the fund's NAV, but it's the opposite of the slow bleed you see in a lot of high-yield funds.

What $10,000 in $GPIQ Pays
Hypothetical math at $56.13 per share (October 20, 2026 close), which buys roughly 178 shares. Before taxes.
| If $GPIQ pays like... | Per Share / Year | Yearly Income | Monthly Income |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2025 (12 payments) | $5.19 | ~$924 | ~$77 |
| Last 12 months | $5.77 | ~$1,027 | ~$86 |
| October 2026 check × 12 | $6.11 | ~$1,088 | ~$91 |
Hypothetical only. Assumes 178 shares and no reinvestment. Real distributions change every month. Project reinvested income on DividendProjection.com.
So $10,000 in $GPIQ is throwing off roughly $80 to $90 a month right now. That's less than the $10,000 math on $QQQI and a bit less than $JEPQ, so the next question is the one that actually matters: what did you get in total return?

| Total return, 1 year | +17.8% | +15.2% | +13.2% |
1-year figures from October 20, 2025 to October 20, 2026 closes, dividends included (Yahoo Finance adjusted prices). For reference, $QQQ returned about +17.9% over the same window. Payouts from Goldman Sachs, Nasdaq.com and issuer records.
This is the part most people miss. $QQQI has the biggest check, but $GPIQ had the best total return of the three, almost matching plain $QQQ over the last year while still paying around 10%. Lower yield, higher share price growth. I'd rather own an income fund that keeps up with the index than chase an extra few points of yield that comes out of the share price. If you want the NEOS side in detail, see the $QQQI 2026 dividend dates and my breakdown of $QQQI's biggest risks. $GPIQ holds the Nasdaq-100 stocks directly (107 holdings as of October 20, 2026, led by $NVDA, $AAPL, $MSFT, $MU and $AMZN). It then dynamically sells Nasdaq-100 call options on between 25% and 75% of the portfolio, a level it generally resets each month. Goldman's stated goal is a consistent monthly distribution while capturing most of the index's return.
That word "part" matters. Because $GPIQ doesn't write calls on 100% of the portfolio, it keeps more upside in rallies than a fully covered fund. That's why its yield is lower than some peers and why its total return has stayed close to $QQQ.
On the tax side, Goldman's estimate as of September 30, 2026 is that about 97.1% of fiscal year-to-date distributions are return of capital. That lowers your cost basis instead of being taxed as income right away. The final split shows up on your 1099-DIV. I covered why some option income funds are built this way in why NEOS ETFs are tax friendly, and the same idea applies here.
The Risks I'd Want You to Know
- It's a tech-heavy fund. Information technology is about 58% of the portfolio. When the Nasdaq-100 drops, $GPIQ drops with it. The monthly check cushions that, it doesn't prevent it.
- The payout is variable. It has trended up, but it ranged from about $0.39 to $0.52 a month since 2024. Budget off the yearly total, not one good month.
- Capped upside. Selling calls trims gains in big rallies. Goldman reports $GPIQ returned 93.36% at NAV since inception through September 30, 2026, versus 110.76% for the Nasdaq-100 total return index.
- Short track record. Three years of history, almost all in a strong market for tech.
My Takeaway
$GPIQ pays monthly, goes ex on the first business day, and pays about a week later. Mark Monday, November 2 as the likely next ex-date. The checks have grown every year, the share price is up, and over the last year it beat both $JEPQ and $QQQI on total return while charging the lowest fee of the three.
Here's what I actually look at before buying any income ETF: does it pay reliably, has the price decayed, and what's the total return. $GPIQ checks all three boxes right now. It won't give you the biggest yield in the room, and I'm fine with that. A 10% yield that keeps your principal growing beats a 14% yield that slowly eats it.
