Why I Look at $JEPI's Full History, Not Just the Latest Check
Most people look up $JEPI's dividend, see one number, and multiply it by 12. That's the fastest way to get your income plan wrong.
$JEPI doesn't pay a fixed dividend. It pays whatever its stocks and its options strategy generate that month. So the only honest way to judge it is to look at every single payment, the good years and the bad ones. That's what this page is.
Here's the short version. Since July 2020 $JEPI has never missed a month. It paid as much as $0.62102 in a month (July 2022) and as little as about $0.26 (August 2021). In a full calendar year it has paid anywhere from $4.16 to $6.36 per share. That range is the real product you're buying.
If you just want the next ex-date, I keep that on the $JEPI 2026 dividend dates page. This page is the long view.
JEPI Dividends by Year
Totals by ex-dividend year. Each December has two ex-dates, which is why every full year shows 12 payments even though no January ex-date exists.
This is the part most people miss
Look at 2022. $JEPI paid its biggest year ever while the S&P 500 was in a bear market. That's not a coincidence. $JEPI sells call options, and options get expensive when markets are scared. Scared markets mean fatter premiums, and fatter premiums mean bigger checks.
Then 2024, a calm year where stocks grinded higher, produced the smallest full-year payout. Calm markets mean cheap options and smaller checks. So $JEPI's income tends to rise when you feel worst about the market and shrink when everything feels great. I actually like that as a diversifier for an income portfolio, but you have to expect it.

Amounts from October 2021 onward are shown to five decimals as reported in JPMorgan's distribution records via public data providers. Payments from July 2020 to September 2021 are shown as reported by Yahoo Finance, rounded to three decimals, and pay dates for those months are not listed. Year-end rows have a late-December ex-date and pay in early January.
The Record Months
- Highest ever: $0.62102 (ex-date July 1, 2022)
- 2nd highest: $0.61036 (December 1, 2022)
- 3rd highest: $0.60627 (November 1, 2022)
- Lowest ever: about $0.257 (August 2, 2021)
- Lowest since 2022: $0.28949 (August 1, 2024)
- Average of all 76 payments: about $0.40
The best month paid more than double the worst. If you're planning real bills around $JEPI, budget off the yearly average, not the most recent check.
What $10,000 in $JEPI Pays Based on Its History
Hypothetical math at a share price of about $57.15 (October 19, 2026), which buys roughly 175 shares. Before taxes.
| If $JEPI pays like... | Per Share / Year | Yearly Income | Monthly Income |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2024 (weakest year) | $4.22 | ~$738 | ~$62 |
| Last 12 months | $4.56 | ~$799 | ~$67 |
| 2025 | $4.72 | ~$826 | ~$69 |
| 2022 (best year) | $6.36 | ~$1,113 | ~$93 |
Hypothetical only. Assumes 175 shares and no reinvestment. Real distributions change every month. Run your own numbers on DividendProjection.com.
So a $10,000 position has historically thrown off somewhere between about $60 and $95 a month. That's a wide band, and it's why I never plan around a single month. If you reinvest, the share count grows every month and that range climbs over time.

$JEPI owns a defensive, actively managed basket of large U.S. stocks. On top of that it sells S&P 500 call options, mostly through equity-linked notes. The option premiums plus the stock dividends get paid out every month.
The trade-off is simple. Selling calls caps some of your upside in big rallies. In return you get a high, steady stream of cash. $JEPI is not built to beat the S&P 500 in a roaring bull market. It's built to pay you while giving you a smoother ride.
One thing I like: unlike a lot of high-yield funds, $JEPI hasn't bled its share price. Our database flags it with no price decay, and it trades around $57 today. Income that doesn't eat your principal is the whole game.

If I want more income and can stomach tech swings, $JEPQ pays more. If I want the calmer ride, $JEPI is the one. Plenty of income investors simply own both. Want a non-JPMorgan comparison? The Risks I'd Want You to Know
- The payout is variable. 2024 paid about a third less than 2022. If your budget needs a fixed number, $JEPI alone won't give you that.
- Capped upside. In strong bull markets $JEPI usually trails the S&P 500 on total return because the calls it sells limit gains.
- Taxes. A big chunk of $JEPI's income comes from equity-linked notes and is generally taxed as ordinary income, so many investors hold it in an IRA or other tax-advantaged account.
- Still a stock fund. In a sharp selloff the share price drops too. The income cushions it, it doesn't prevent it.
My Takeaway
Six years of data tell a clear story. $JEPI has paid every single month, kept its share price intact, and delivered roughly $4 to $6 per share a year depending on how volatile the market was. That's a reliable income tool, just not a fixed one.
Here's what I actually look at before buying any income ETF: the full payout history, whether the price has decayed, and the total return. $JEPI passes the first two easily. On total return it's solid but it won't keep pace with the index in a raging bull market, and I'm fine with that because that's not its job.
