What Stocks Does SCHD Hold in 2026?

The Schwab U.S. Dividend Equity ETF (SCHD) tracks the Dow Jones U.S. Dividend 100 Index, which selects high-quality dividend-paying U.S. stocks screened on free cash flow to total debt, return on equity, dividend yield, and five-year dividend growth rate. As of August 20, 2026, SCHD's holdings file lists 103 positions across 10 sectors, with Schwab publishing the 100 largest by market value.

Abbott Laboratories (ABT) remains the fund's largest holding at 4.86% of assets, worth roughly $5.4 billion. The bigger story is behind it: Merck (MRK) climbed to 4.82% and passed Amgen for the #2 spot, giving SCHD an all-healthcare top three for the first time this year. Amgen (AMGN) sits third at 4.75%.

Energy also pushed higher. Chevron (CVX) at 4.02% and ConocoPhillips (COP) at 4.01% now occupy the #5 and #6 slots — the first time two energy names have sat that high in the book in 2026. ConocoPhillips alone jumped four places in a single week.

SCHD is not heavily concentrated by large-fund standards. No single position exceeds 4.86%, and the top 10 holdings together account for 42.15% of assets — the index enforces a weight cap that prevents any one stock from dominating the portfolio.

Three Things Worth Noticing This Week

1. Healthcare swept the podium. Abbott, Merck, and Amgen are now #1, #2, and #3, worth 14.43% between them. Add UnitedHealth at #9 and Bristol Myers Squibb at #12, and the sector is 21.48% of the fund — its highest reading of 2026.

2. Energy is quietly taking over the top 10. Chevron and ConocoPhillips both cleared 4.00% and now sit back-to-back at #5 and #6. Energy as a sector grew from 14.94% to 15.68%, its fourth straight weekly gain.

3. Financials keeps shrinking. The sector fell from 10.28% to 9.74%, dropping below 10% for the first time this year. Blackstone did most of the damage, sliding from 2.74% to 2.56% and falling three spots. Financials still has 39 names — the most of any sector — but the fewest percentage points per name.

SCHD Sector Breakdown

How SCHD's disclosed positions are distributed across sectors, by portfolio weight. Tap any sector to filter the full holdings table below.

What the Sector Mix Tells You

Health Care (21.48%) and Consumer Staples (19.42%) together make up nearly 41% of the fund — a defensive core built around Abbott, Merck, Amgen, UnitedHealth, Coca-Cola, Procter & Gamble, and PepsiCo. This is why SCHD tends to hold up better than the broad market in drawdowns and lag it in momentum-driven rallies. If you want the opposite exposure, our Top Growth ETFs list covers the other end of the spectrum.

Information Technology is only 8.54%, spread across just four names: Texas Instruments, Accenture, Qualcomm, and Skyworks. The sleeve shrank again this week as Texas Instruments fell from 3.32% to 3.19%. SCHD's screens require a meaningful dividend yield plus five years of dividend growth, which structurally excludes most large-cap growth technology. If you own SCHD expecting tech exposure, you don't have it.

Financials has the most names (39) but only 9.74% of weight — mostly small regional banks in the long tail, each under 0.75%. Sector count and sector weight are very different things in this fund, and financials just slipped under 10% for the first time in 2026.

Energy climbed to 15.68%, its highest reading of the year, on continued strength in Chevron, ConocoPhillips, EOG, and Devon. Energy is the sleeve most likely to swing SCHD's weight table between quarterly rebalances. See how energy income funds compare on the Top 100 Dividend ETFs leaderboard.

The file reports 103 total positions and publishes the largest 100 by market value; the three below the cutoff are the fund's smallest tail holdings, which in the prior file were Oxford Industries plus two index futures contracts. SCHD Top 10 Holdings Explained

The 10 largest positions and what they represent, together making up 42.15% of the fund.

The Defensive Core

Abbott Laboratories (4.86%), Merck (4.82%), and Amgen (4.75%) now hold the top three spots outright — 14.43% in three healthcare names. Add UnitedHealth (3.78%) at #9 and the sector controls 18.21% of the top 10 alone. Merck's move from #3 to #2 was the single largest weight change in the fund this week at +0.40 points.

Coca-Cola (4.26%), Procter & Gamble (3.78%), and PepsiCo (3.70%, just outside at #11) anchor the consumer staples sleeve at 11.74% between them. Slow growers, reliable payers, decades of increases — the kind of names we track in the SCHD dividend history.

Chevron (4.02%) and ConocoPhillips (4.01%) are the story of the month. Both cleared 4.00% and now sit back-to-back at #5 and #6, the first time two energy names have held consecutive top-6 slots in 2026. ConocoPhillips alone climbed four places in five sessions.

Home Depot (3.96%) is still the highest-weighted consumer discretionary name in the fund by a wide margin — the next-largest is Ford at 1.34% — but it has now slipped from #3 to #7 in two weeks as healthcare and energy climbed past it.

Verizon (3.91%) rounds out the high-yield ballast at #8 with 88.0 million shares, the largest share count of any top-10 position by a factor of three.

How SCHD Picks Its Holdings

The rules behind the list — screens, caps, reconstitution, and rebalance dates.

Four Screens, 100 Names, Zero Discretion

Ticker
SCHD
Issuer
Charles Schwab
Index
DJ U.S. Dividend 100
Reconstitution
Annual (March)
Rebalance
Quarterly

SCHD does not pick stocks. It mechanically follows the Dow Jones U.S. Dividend 100 Index, which starts with U.S. companies that have paid dividends for at least 10 consecutive years, then ranks the survivors on four equally weighted metrics: free cash flow to total debt, return on equity, indicated dividend yield, and five-year dividend growth rate.

The top 100 by composite score make the index. Weights are capped so no single stock exceeds 4% at reconstitution and no sector exceeds 25%, which is why you see the top positions clustered tightly between 3.7% and 4.86% rather than one or two names dominating. Note that positions can and do drift above the 4% cap between reconstitutions — six holdings sit above it right now, which is entirely normal.

The index reconstitutes annually each March — that's when names are added and removed. It rebalances quarterly in March, June, September, and December, which only shifts weights among existing holdings. Between those events, weights drift naturally with share prices. The next rebalance lands in September; our Q2 rebalance recap shows what that process looked like last quarter.

⚠️ Why the File Says 103 Positions but Only Shows 100

The Dow Jones U.S. Dividend 100 Index targets exactly 100 stocks. SCHD's disclosed holdings file for 08/20/2026 reports 103 total line items but displays the largest 100 by market value. Those 100 break down as 98 common stocks plus the SSC government money market fund (GVMXX, 0.03%) and a U.S. dollar cash balance (0.02%). The three line items below the display cutoff are the fund's smallest tail positions — in the prior week's file those were Oxford Industries and two index futures contracts (S&P MidCap 400 E-mini and DJIA E-mini, both September 2026) used to equitize uninvested cash between trades. Combined, everything below the cutoff is worth well under 0.05% of assets and has no meaningful effect on returns.
